From
some scans (2003.09.08), I used various filters and blurs to give a “drawn”
effect. I had to use many filters (not just “crosshatch”) to create
a random pattern. I was not fully satisfied with my results, however.
This
assignment was a new experience for me—taking photographs on a scanner
was interesting. I spent quite a bit of time setting up shots and experimenting
with various possibilities while seriously impairing my scanner. I also concentrated
on making digital variations (i.e., contrast, filters, and color).
I
specifically manipulated two images for this assignment, but variations from
2003.09.08 also fulfill this assignment. Overall, I investigated many options.
This
collage was pretty complicated to make and color balance, but overall, to more
closely replicate Gaz, I should have applied more filters to the images to distort
them; this collage lacked a surrealist presence.
I
strayed from the specific assignment slightly (sorry, Guy), but I was very pleased
with my results. The subtleties of this piece speak louder than a complicated
collage. Although it is simple, I think the content is meaningful; I applied
more effort in the message than in the first version of this assignment.
Of
all the assignments in this course, this may have been my favorite. I enjoyed
combining objects to create an interesting “juxtaposynthesis.” I
spent much time trying to create a believable perspective. I also worked hard
on lighting and contrast. The final version was pretty successful.
Again, I enjoyed this assignment—on this particular
piece, I spent more time with color, shadow, and blending. I had to redo the
edges a couple times for a believable effect.
Although I did not produce any more than two final images
of this project, I did create two versions of each. I spent much time refining
the first two images instead of generating more pieces.
Creating
panoramas was fun to learn about. I had tried to make panoramas prior to taking
this course, but had little success. After reading the handouts and experimenting
with color, contrast, blending, and other effects, I finally came to a satisfying
conclusion.
I
poured a lot of time into this assignment because I plan to have this panorama
printed for frame, matte, and display in my house (see “Panorama.V1”
for more details).
After taking digital photographs, I manipulated the images
and managed them in one huge document (551 MB) to be prepared for the “Tiled
Print” assignment. I tried to break some conventions with the shape
and thought this would be a good piece for a “Tiled Print”, “Unconventional
Print”, or both. Overall, this may have been the most time-consuming
project of the semester.
Instead of generating two images for this assignment, I poured
my effort into one (see “Complex Collage.V1”).
After
a failed attempt, I chose to take the iron off the transfer a little sooner.
The second try was successful and I was very satisfied with the final product.
I anticipate perusing this theme further and creating a body of work with similar
subject matter. Competing with “Juxtaposynthesis,” this was one
of my favorite assignments of the semester. I poured much time into the theme
and content of this project and was excited by the end result.
Perusing
the web for digital images was a good experience—there are plenty of images
to make the decision difficult. Finally, I had to stop viewing and begin choosing.
I picked images from the Valicenti Brothers on 3st.com*.
These images are intriguing and are good examples of “juxtaposynthesis.”
This
was a project that I initially took much interest in. I spent some good time
sketching and developing ideas. Eventually, I put the sequence together in the
triptych form. I think it is a good start, but needs to be pushed much further.
Overall, this project was left largely unfinished—to my dismay.
Movies
and film have always been of interest to me. Even though this is a very short
clip, I enjoyed making it. The content is pretty straightforward—the same
images from the “Sequence” assignment are used—but once again,
this is an area I am intrigued by. It is simple, but I think the content is
important.
Yes,
this is a continuation of the “Complex Collage” assignment (see
2003.10.27)—I have continued work and have pushed this image further.
I like what has happened as I have spent more time working with this image.
A
compilation of three variations on this image from 2003.10.27—I think
they fit together well. Of equal importance to this image is the theme and content.
