  Two-Dimensional Design
  Color Theory/ Web page design
      Project Description:
In this assignment you will study the vocabulary of color theory and create illustrations of several of the terms. You will design the illustrations on web pages in Dreamweaver. While you are practicing seeing color affects you will also be learning how to make and publish a web site.

Procedure: create the first page of your website. see example
      1. Create the first page of your web site and give it the title: Two-dimensional Design/Color Theory. Then save the page as 2d.html.(you may give it a different name depending on the class for which you are making the portfolio. This address should corespond to your link on the class website.) The address you save should be all one word, all lowercase letters and will end with .html. As you save it you will be creating the address of your web page.
      2. The first page of our color theory web site will contain an 18 color, color wheel and a 13 color gradation mixing complementary colors.
      3. To begin any web page, I recommend you start with a table to organize your elements and keep them in place. In Dreamweaver, you will see at the top of the window, a row of insert tabs starting with Common. The common tab is the one we will use the most. Click on the Insert Table icon. It is the fourth one from the left. If you leave your cursor over any of the icons, the icon’s name will appear to help you identify it.
      4. In the Insert Table properties window you will have several choices to make. Experiment and see what different numbers will do to the table design. For the color wheel you should have at least 16 rows and 16 columns in your table. I do not recommend you put a border on your table. You can make your table any dimension you like. I will give you the specifications for a basic sollution to the design problem. When you are ready to create your table click OK.
      5. At this point you should select a background color for you page. You do this by going to Modify/page properties. In the window that comes up click on the box next to the word: background. Choose a grey. Colors are most accurately perceived with a grey that is about 18% of black, so, that means it is a pretty light grey. You can use any color you like. Then select OK.
      6. At the bottom of your screen you should see a contextual properties window (that is, a window that changes whenever you change tools or actions. When you select your table, you will get a table properties window. In the table properties you can set or reset table background color, cell padding, cell spaceing, rows or columns, etc. If you do not use a grey for your page background you should give the table a background of grey.
      7. When you click in a cell in your table, your properties window changes into two parts. The top part sets properties associated with the type, like font style, size, color, etc. The bottom part sets properties realted to the cell. Here is where you will select colors for your color wheel and gradations. Select a cell and change its background color by clicking on the box labeled—Bg. When the color swatches come up you will see a vericolored disk. When you click on that disk you will be able to choose your color selection format. I recommend the CMYK sliders.
      8. When you adjust the sliders to create the color you want and click OK the color will fill the background of the cell. Continue to select colors and locations to create a color wheel similar to the one in the example above. There is room for a little creativity here. Just be sure to have three primary colors, three secondary colors and two tertiaries in between each primary and secondary pair. You should have a total of 18 colors in your color wheel.
      9. On this page with the color wheel make a 12 step blend between two complementary colors. You can do it inside the color wheel or create a separate row of colors.
      10. Finally, since this is the first page of your web site, you should add some text to label the pages. Keep it functional.
      11. And also we need to add links to the other pages. We will create four more color diagrams.

—one page is: color relativity

—one page is: color temperature, advancing and receeding color
—one page is: color tints and shades
—one page is: simulating color transperancy
Choose a cell to start the list of pages. Click in the cell and a type cursor blinks. Type the name of your second page in that cell. Do the same for each page in separate cells. You can choose a type color in the type properties window that appears when you have a blinking type cursor.
Go back to the text for the first page in the list. Drag the type cursor over the text to select it. Then go the type properties window and type the name of the html address for that page in the Link box. Remember, it should be lower case and no spaces. (your initials, color, pagenumber.html —like this—gccolor2.html) Then, in the target box in the properties window, choose  _self. That means that the linked web page will open in a the same window as the one we are currently viewing, as opposed to opening in a separate window.
Follow this procedure to add links to the other page texts. Remember to title your subsequent new pages exactly as you do in the link or else the link won't be able to find the page.
