| Part Two | Shape Transformation | |||||
| Procedure: | ||||||
| 1. | This part of the project will not be completed on the computer. This will involve drawing and painting, mixing acrylic paint colors and creating a nine step or nine page book. | color wheel | ||||
| 2. | Pick two of the most descriptive shapes from your drawings. Synthesize them and create a new shape that combines the most salient features of both shapes. This new shape will be some kind of mixture, integration or morph. You will be making nine shapes altogether but it is important to create this intermediary shape first. Try to make a shape that has qualities of both your originating shapes. Although you can create a morph from one shape to a blob to your final shape, try not to use nondescriptive blob-like shapes. | ![]() |

| 3. | All nine shapes will be drawn on five by six and a half inch sheets of paper. First, though, you can work out the transformations on separate sheets. Try to make your shapes almost fill the 5 x 6.5" sheets. | |||||
| 4. | When you create your transformation, start by figuring out a transformation from the first shape to the middle shape. You will make three steps of transformation. Then create three more shapes that show a transformation from the middle shape to the last shape. | |||||
| 5. | The other part of this assignment involves creating a gradient or transformation of color. You can do the color gradient by blending two colors on opposite sides of the color wheel (complimentary colors), or you can pick one color and put it in the middle and create a blend from white to your color and then to black in nine steps. The complimentary blend will have a neutral grey in the middle because that is what you get when you blend complimentary colors. | |||||
| Color mixing will be demonstrated in class. | color wheel | |||||
| 6. | Paint each sheet a solid, opaque color based on the blend you choose. Make the steps as even as possible with no obvious giant steps. Each step should seem like a halfway point between the other two colors. | |||||
| 7. | When the paint has dried, transfer your drawings onto the color gradient following the appropriate numbered steps. If you drew your shapes to fit the five inch square, you can coat the back of the drawings with pencil graphite and then lay them on the painted sheets and softly trace the image to the painted sheet. | |||||
| 8. | Instead of painting the shapes you created, you will paint the space around the shape. Mix a neutral grey for the background color and as carefully as possible, paint from the shape to the edges of the paper. | |||||
| 9. | When the paint is dry, find a way to connect the sheet in a long row, or make a flip book by attaching the sheets. That is why the sheets are not square--so you can use the extra inch a and half to connect them without obscuring your drawing.Be carefull and make it look good. | |||||
