Collage/Montage
a la David Gaz |
| |
|
| • |
Study the photo
collages of David Gaz, either on his website on in the Communication
Arts Magazine. |
| • |
Replicate one
of his images using the scanner to scan found photos or actual objects.
(Or alter aspects or images to suit your own content.) Do not use photos from the internet. |
| • |
Use the image
adjustment options to create color effects similar to Gaz’. |
| • |
Pay particular
attention to the work that minimizes spatial depth. |
| • |
Build the collage/montage
with layers and layer blending. |
| • |
Use filters
and effects to create variety. (more is more) |

Keep in mind
that the scanner works within a very narrow depth of field. Build a narrow
stage for the drama but add as much texture and complexity as possible.
Do not hide the fact that the imagery is photographed with a scanner. Maintain
qualities inherent in the scanning process. |

One you are
able to recreate the Gaz-like image to your satisfaction, complete one other
collage/montage building on the qualities inherent to the process. Try to
explore the potential for expression within these limitations. Add your
own content, be playful or at least experimental. |
