Biography
Sara Ann McGirr was born in the tiny town of Wessington, South Dakota on May 19, 1987. As the first child of small business owners David and Linda McGirr, Sara was a slightly spoiled little girl. When she was three, the McGirr family moved to the small town of Huron, South Dakota. She attended kindergarten in the Huron Public School district, where she would remain until her graduation from high school. Always curious about the world around her, Sara started to read at three, and could often be found reading the daily newspaper at age five. Sara's family grew from three members to four with the addition of her younger brother, Matthew David, in 1991. She led a quiet life full of Barbies and books in her white house on the corner of Illinois Avenue and 12th Street.
It was in sixth grade that Sara's involvement in the myriad of extra-curricular
activities that would shape her middle and high school careers began. Through
the seven years of secondary education, Sara found herself involved with activities
in several different areas of the school. Involved with basketball, softball,
golf, volleyball, and track in middle school, Sara determined the world of sports
was not for her. Everything else, however, seemed to be tailor-made for her
talents.
Throughout her career in Huron schools, Sara held four different offices in student government, participated in Spanish club and Key Club, served as treasurer for a youth philanthropy board, and took part in the "Think Big Leadership and Marketing class." Always interested in the arts, she took part in ten theatrical productions, held the office of Drama Club president, directed the student television network, won several superiors at the state oral interpretation tournament, was a section leader of the trumpets in Band, and participated in choir.
Sara proved herself a superior student in high school. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA,
she was ranked first in her class and received an Academic Letter. She was vice
president of Huron's chapter of the National Honor Society, a Senate Page, an
Academic All-State Second Team Member, and a Governor's Academic Excellence
Award Winner. A National Merit Scholar Program Commended Student and a Harvard
Book Award recipient, Sara was recognized by several honor publications for
her academic achievement.
Currently a freshman at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, Miss McGirr
is majoring in Business. Though she is not sure if the Business world is for
her, she finds that her gifts of organizing people, projects, and events point
to a career in Project Management, perhaps in the Non-profit sector. Sara's
dream is to attend graduate school to earn her MBA, and then to begin a career
working as a project manager for a missions group overseas.
In her free time, Sara enjoys reading, watching and participating in theater,
discussing philosophy, and having fun with her friends. She hopes to be able
to spend a semester overseas at some point during college and to start a pro-chastity
program in her area. Other goals include owning a pet (which she has never done)
and becoming fluent in Spanish.
