Social Impacts of our Product

IPods have impacted society in many ways, as have cell phones (see chart below). One of the main ways that Ipods have impacted society is by making legal downloading and selling of music easier, thanks to their Itunes store. With the release of the new Video Ipod, they are now able to do the same thing with TV shows and video. A new phenomenon called podcasting has also impacted society by becoming become popular with many businesses and individuals. This technology allows anybody to make their own radio show, using their Ipod, and broadcast them to others on the Internet. Podcasting is especially valuable for those in advertising and business, but essentially allows anybody with access to an Ipod the means to make their own radio show about any topic they wish. Cell phones have also impacted society in a big way, providing for easy, portable communication. The most wonderful thing about the Ipod and the cell phone is that the technology for both of them has never stopped developing. Both technologies are constantly being updated and new models are always being released on the market, so that customers always have something better to look for and purchase.

Our group plans to harness both of these markets with our cell phone Ipod, so that the impact on society can be even greater and more profitable. Our Ipod will not only contain cell phone capabilities, but will also contain Internet, Email, and video capabilities. Today's society is becoming more increasingly fast-paced, and as a result, technology has been trying to adapt to the times and to become more and more portable. Customers everywhere have shown that what they want in a product is the ability to communicate with ease and also to have complete access to entertainment, both in a convenient, on-the-go fashion. Everywhere you look you can see someone with a cell phone plastered to their ear, or an Ipod at the ready. Items such as T-Mobile Sidekicks or Blackberrys have almost become status symbols. Our product would cater not only to the customers who need a portable workstation, but also to those who want to be able to have their favorite music at their fingertips, or to watch their favorite TV shows anywhere they are. The thing that makes our product stand out, however, is that our product will be able to perform all these functions in one sleek piece of electronics.

Another valuable aspect of our product is that because it combines so many various electronics into one item, it will actually be more affordable. Customers who were only able to afford one type of technology before will now be able to own video, email, Internet, cell phone, and a digital music player for one price. Although the price may seem a little steep at first, when weighed with the sum of all the individual prices of the pieces, it becomes clear which is the more economical buy. Also, the fact that we are planning on offering 5 months of free service with unlimited minutes upon purchase of the Ipod makes our product a very reasonable buy. Once in a while, products come along that the public loves and demands, much like the original Ipod, and we believe that our new model has the capacity to have the same type of social impact, if not more, than any of the previous wildly popular Ipod models.

The chart below illustrates the phenomenal growth of sales that cell phones have experienced just since 1985. Our team plans to appeal to not only this market, but those of other best-selling electronics as well.
