Bethel Antiracism and Reconciliation

Racial Harassment Policy

The Bethel community seeks the restoration of justice and care in all their dealings with people. Racial harassment is destructive to that goal. Moreover, it is contrary to Christ’s call to servanthood and to our understanding of the equal worth of all persons before God. Beyond being illegal, racial harassment—verbal or physical, overt or covert—strikes at the heart of what we consider to be moral and just.

The present and future course of Bethel University is designed to eliminate all policies and practices that work to the disadvantage of individuals on the basis of race, and to work diligently to eliminate all forms of discrimination including institutional and personal patterns that directly and indirectly feed the destructive forces of racism.

Bethel is therefore committed to consistent effort toward maintaining a Christ-centered community free of all forms of racial harassment and has adopted strict racial harassment policies and procedures as a basis for community guidance, education, and complaint resolution. The policy clearly defines racist and discriminatory behavior; prescribes a process for resolution of complaints; and establishes a formal grievance procedure.

For a copy of those policies and procedures, please contact William Goodman, director of human resources at Bethel University, at w-goodman@bethel.edu or 651.638.6119.
