Bethel Antiracism and Reconciliation
Heart of the City and other multicultural worship groups lead Bethel chapel services.
Noted worship and reconciliation leader Dan Adler is pastor of worship for the College of Arts & Sciences. Adler is best known for founding and directing Heart of the City, a multicultural worship celebration in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. The ethnically diverse Heart of the City band brings the goals of that ministry—to break down ethnic, cultural, and societal barriers, and unify believers in prayer and worship—to student worship gatherings in Benson Great Hall at Bethel. Adler also mentors racially integrated student music teams to lead community worship on a regular basis. “I don’t want to have ‘multicultural services’ per se,” says Adler. “My goal is to make multicultural music part of every Bethel worship service.”
Chapel services frequently feature noted guest speakers of color including Brenda Salter McNeil, Rev. John Jenkins, and James Earl Massey. Worship leaders have included I-Themba, the South African worship dance group, and Bethel’s own Seth Naicker, a student from South Africa who formerly coordinated international Youth for Christ evangelism teams.
