Research Ethics Training

Bethel University is a subscribing organization of the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). CITI is a subscription service providing research ethics education to all members of the research community. This service provides training modules and corresponding quizzes to assure that all researchers are following appropriate ethical standards and Federal Law in their research endeavors.

All researchers conducting Level 1 research requiring review by the IRB Committee, or Level 2 and Level 3 research submitted to the Committee for review, must submit documentation of completion of the CITI ethics training modules.

Register and begin your training with CITI.

Once you are on the CITI site, click register and then type Bethel University as your institution in the section labeled Select Your Organization Affiliation. Follow the instructions for completing your registration, which includes creating a username and password for future use. When registering for the first time be sure to indicate that you are taking the CITI basic course most appropriate to your intended research study (e.g., Basic Human Subjects - Social & Behavioral Focus) AND that you have not yet taken the basic course. Once registration is completed, the system will provide you with your required modules to complete.

After you have finished all required modules, forward the completion certificate to the Chairperson of the Bethel University IRB Committee. Please note: The certificate of completion includes an expiration date. Be sure that you submit a current valid certificate of completion. Renewal of your certificate involves completing one of the CITI refresher courses. If your certificate of completion has expired, you may follow the steps above and complete the refresher course.
