Army Chaplain Earns Two Bronze Stars

 

Scott R. Carson, a 1999 graduate of Bethel Seminary’s doctor of ministry program, received two Bronze Star medals for his service on deployments and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 1, 2004. He entered active duty as an Army chaplain in June 1986, and his assignments have included battalion level ministry at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Neu Ulm, Germany; Guenzburg, Germany; Ft. Hood, Texas; and Suwon, Korea. As a brigade chaplain he was assigned to Ft. Hood; Ft. Belvoir, Virginia; and Ft. Bragg.

Chaplain Carson served with the 82nd Airborne Division as the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment Task Force Chaplain in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, 2002-03, and in Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2003-04. He has been an assistant pastor at five Army chapels and senior pastor at seven. He is currently the deputy command chaplain for the 104th Area Support Group and the Senior Community Chaplain in Hanau, Germany.

The two Bronze Star medals recently awarded to Chaplain Carson are the latest of many decorations he has received. He has been honored with two Meritorious Service medals; eight Army Commendation medals; the National Defense Service Medal with Star; the Armed Forces Reserve medal; the Afghanistan Campaign medal; the Iraq Campaign medal; the Global War on Terrorism service medal; and numerous others.

Chaplain Carson and his wife Linda have been married 27 years and have two children, Melissa, 17, and David, 14.
