Heart & Mind
Desanne Hippe, assistant professor of systematic theology, has completed her two-year term of service with Bethel and will return this summer to the Milwaukee area with her husband John. Hippe was uniformly praised by her students for making theology classes comfortable and non-threatening, and for making difficult theological concepts understandable and accessible.
Hippe holds a B.A. from Berea College, an M.S.W. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. from Marquette University. She has served as a social worker in Louisville, Ky., including time as director of Pyramid House, a facility providing therapeutic rehabilitation services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness. She has also been an adjunct professor of theology at the Elmbrook Christian Study Center, Brookfield, Wis., and was a lecturer in theology at Marquette University, Milwaukee. Her teaching and research interests include needs discourse, theological anthropology, philosophy and theology, and ethics.
Hippe looks forward to spending more focused time in the coming year with Hannah, whom she and John adopted from China in spring 2004; working on various theology writing projects; and serving as an advocate for adoption. •
