Wyndy Corbin has been involved in vocational ministry for about 17 years as a missionary with the Evangelical Free Church in Japan; in human resource management at a Christian social services organization; and as a member of a church pastoral staff where she focused on outreach and singles ministry. She taught human resource management, ethics, and cross-cultural communications at Eastern College before joining Seminary of the East in 1997. Currently she is finishing doctoral work in Christian social ethics at Drew University. Corbin shares Bethel Seminary of the Easts passion for moral and spiritual formation in the context of pastoral ministry. She says she sees pastors as ethicists who shape congregations to act as moral communities of Jesus, making a difference in the world. Corbin designs some of the courses she teaches with this concept in mind. She has also applied the concept to her own life, exploring aspects of Christian spirituality on a deeper and more intentional level as she seeks to be a model for students. In addition, Corbin celebrates the diversity and unique urban focus that characterize Bethel Seminary of the East. I think the four locations of the centers are critical for ministry in the Northeast, as is a sensitivity to the differences that each center represents in terms of churches, ministry concerns, and urban issues, she says. I love urban life as a representation of the diversity of Gods world and for the creative challenges it presents for ministry. She describes the atmosphere at Bethel Seminary of the East as very collegial, with a strong sense that we, as a whole, are an entire learning community. Corbin believes that the partnership between Bethel and Seminary of the East--with their shared values and unique ministry focus--will bring a quick expansion of the four Northeast centers. And for herself, Corbin says the partnership has provided a theological home and a place of freedom to work and to contribute to Gods work through who I am and what I do. Wyndy Corbin is associate dean of Bethel Seminary of the East. |
