Bethel University Homecoming 2009

1959

Dear Class of 1959:

Fifty-eight people enjoyed a great time at our “golden” reunion. Classmates came from Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Our luncheon was in the new Brushaber Commons Boardroom (the nicest room in that wonderful new building). Bud Malmsten was the MC. He gave each of us a blessing to read; see the enclosure. Clarence Bass talked about our mutual first year. Jerry Healy and Roy Dalton visited and prayed with us. We sang old choruses such as, “It’s Bubbling,”  “Do Lord,” and “I’ve Got the Joy!” After, we shared and enjoyed visiting with each other. We were amazed and pleased to see that we recognized each other! Not one of us looked like 50 years had passed.  Old stories of those glorious days were told!

Don Sension led us in a time of silence as we listened to the list of those who have died. We felt sad to miss them, but we remembered with joy what they had meant to us.

Bethel is thriving. We got to know and appreciate the new Bethel president, Jay Barnes. He talked about his vision for Bethel, assisting us in enlarging our own vision. We were thankful for those who have supported the university through the years since our time there 50 years ago.  Many of us were inspired to continue with prayer and financial support.

For our next reunion, we will graduate from “golden” to “platinum.” Please plan on being with us in 2014. We’re sure to still recognize each other!

Best Regards,

Your Reunion Committee:  Lorraine Eitel, Jeanette (Holt) Pearce, Gene Pearson, Don Sension, Mert Sheetz, Shirley (Wall) Tulberg, Karen (Westlund) Newstrom
