Dear Class of 1974:

Thirty-nine years ago, about 300 teenagers converged on a square block across the street from the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul to become the Bethel Class of 1974. On September 26, 2009, over 40 members of our class (plus spouses, bringing our attendance to over 56!), having traveled a long and winding road over the past 35 years, reconnected at Bethel University in Arden Hills for our 35th year reunion.

What a great evening we had as we met old friends and made new ones. As we took the time to share our life experiences of the past 35 years, we learned that there is much to appreciate and be thankful for, both in the friendships we have made because of our Bethel connections and in the life lessons we have learned in the past 35 years. No matter what our experiences have been, we discovered that our connection to Bethel is a common bond that will hold us together.

The evening included a chance to reminisce and laugh at our youthful photos and antics. Who could forget those winter afternoons sledding on DC trays at Como Park, sun tanning at the State Fairgrounds, the many dorm antics, academic classes, memorable faculty who impacted our lives, and chapel speakers who challenged us to grow in our faith?

Mixers and times of conversation provided much laughter and fun, as well. Our staff and faculty guests of the evening, Jerry Healy, Dwaine Lind, and Alice Johnson, provided a special flavor as they shared their memories of Bethel and our class and gave us their advice for our looming retirement years. Our evening included a challenge by alum Connie Johnson Clark, and culminated with a special time to remember those of our Class who have passed away.

We eagerly look forward to continuing on our long and winding road through the next stage of our lives and trust that you will make Bethel and/or many of your alumni friends a stop along that road. May you continue to find ways to support Bethel University in the coming years as you keep the Bethel students, staff, and faculty in your prayers.
