Letter from Planning Committee

Class of 1989 : 15 Year Reunion

Dear Classmates,

We did it! The Bethel Class of 1989 had a great time together on Saturday, October 16, as we celebrated our 15th class reunion. Fellowship was sweet and time went by too quickly. The weather was chilly, but our spirits were high. In the last minute of play, the football game against the Tommies ended in a loss for the Royals.

The room was abuzz with conversation as we became reacquainted around the dinner table and during our special class gatherings. Classmates come from Alaska to Massachusetts and many places in between. Many thanks to Don and Sherry Mortenson for sharing memories with us during our post-dinner program. We’ve grown older but wiser, and certainly share an appreciation for what God did for us at Bethel so many years ago.

From my perspective, the Bethel family is unique. I frequently meet people who have connections to Bethel. Bethel has been a powerful force in our family. It continues to educate students with a strong spiritual focus. I was impressed with the students' depth of love for the Savior and their commitment to make a difference for Christ in this world. There are more than 2,800 traditional undergraduate students on campus who are being influenced by the faculty and staff at Bethel. Please pray for wisdom and strength for Bethel administration and faculty so they will stay the course that has been anchored in Christ.

I also want to encourage you to continue your support for Bethel. Many of you contribute in a variety of financial ways, including making gifts to the Bethel Fund. Tuition alone does not cover the expenses at Bethel, and $3.3 million is needed to meet that need this year. The Carnegie Foundation annually ranks universities and colleges by several factors, including the number of alumni who give to their alma mater. Whether it is a gift of $5 or $5,000, your contribution helps increase Bethel’s ranking. Others support Bethel through prayer.

No matter how you are connected, remember that others sacrificed so that we could have a great Christian education and that we are needed to continue that mission. Pray that students today will be motivated to love the Lord with all their hearts and be prepared to serve Him in their future vocations. Alumni from all over the world are praying for Bethel daily, and it is greatly appreciated.

Again, it was really fun to reconnect. Those who could not attend were missed. May God bless you as you serve Him wherever He has planted you. We’ve often heard the comment, “I only attended Bethel for one (or two) year(s).” Well, that doesn’t matter—we just want to see you again. Please join us in 2009, the big 2-0. We hope to see you around campus, but until we do, keep your eyes on Jesus and love the world through Him.
