Roll the dice. SEVEN – The red team lands on the Flameburger Railroad – “You enter a burger eating contest with Fred Swedberg at the Flameburger. You eat 10 burgers – you lose! Pay $40.
Roll the dice. FIVE – The blue team lands on the History House. For $50 – Who was the king of England during the American Revolution? Was it Henry VIII, George III, Fred I, or Louis XIV? George III is correct! Banker – Pay the Blue team $50.
Who said you cannot have fun at a 35th class reunion? We laughed the evening away playing Bethel-opoly (The Old Campus Edition). The Yellow team finally emerged victorious with over $5,000 Bethel-opoly dollars. Fred Swedberg and Jerry Tarman led worship from twin pianos, and Dave Pound led a sharing time to wrap up the evening.
Recently, I heard from one of our classmates. The note said “The reunion night couldn’t have been better. The monopoly game was a blast, and the singing and sharing time was so special.” Classmates came from as far as Massachusetts, Florida, Oregon, and California to attend the reunion. For some, this was the first class reunion since graduating (I am picking on Dave Pound here). For others, this was the first reunion in at least 10 years. Everyone who came said it was well worth the trip.
The evening was enhanced with the presence of two very special people from whom we learned a great deal about being a servant. Margaret Peterson (Coffee Shop Margaret) and Keith (Janitor for Jesus) Tekautz were introduced with a well deserved standing ovation.
In five years we will be celebrating the big 4-0. It is hard to believe – but true. Plan now to attend. It will be fun and well worth the trip. Who knows – we might even play Bethel-opoly again. No matter what we do, it will be a time of encouragement, laughter, and sharing with old friends.
Thanks to Bill Weigel and Deb Slechta who worked hard on the details to make this a great event and a memorable reunion.
