Curtiss DeYoung, professor of reconciliation studies and special
assistant to the president for reconciliation and community partnerships at
Bethel University, was featured in a CNN article "Why many Americans prefer their Sundays segregated." The article quotes DeYoung extensively. DeYoung, who once pastored an interracial congregation in Minneapolis, is the author and co-author of several books including Living Faith: How Faith
Inspires Social Justice, United by Faith, and Beyond
Rhetoric.
"Only about 5 percent of the nation's churches are racially integrated,
and half of them are in the process of becoming all-black or all-white," DeYoung told CNN. DeYoung "defines an interracial church as one in which at least 20 percent its
membership belongs to a racial group other than that church's largest
racial group."
