The ACP awards are a wonderful
affirmation of the hard work and commitment to excellence on the part of the
Clarion staff.

The Bethel University Clarion student newspaper was recently recognized by the Associated Collegiate Press at the Midwinter National College Newspaper Convention in San Francisco. The newspaper received second place "Best of Show" in the four-year non-weekly category. The award
signifies overall excellence among publication entries from colleges and
universities with students attending the convention.

In addition, at another Associated Collegiate Press conference this winter, Bethel senior Jason Schoonover received fourth place "Best of Show" in the feature story category for his story on Matt Miller, who recently received the Above & Beyond Citizen Honor for his heroic efforts to rescue people from the 35W bridge collapse.
"Cory Streeter [editor-in-chief] has done an amazing job of working with a very talented team of editors to produce a top-quality newspaper, and this award recognizes that effort," says Associate Professor Phyllis Alsdurf, who directs Bethel's journalism program. "Of course, as adviser, Scott Reed has had a tremendous role in helping with a redesign of the Clarion this year and motivating the staff week after week to produce well-written editorial content that meets the standards of journalistic excellence.”
