performance in an annual problem-solving competition among colleges and
universities worldwide.

Junior Andrew Reid, sophomore Sarah Kaiser, and junior Steve Hill earned "meritorious" mention—the second-highest rating possible in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling, organized by the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP). They were also the highest-scoring team from Minnesota.
The team from Bethel ranked in the top 14 percent of 1,540 schools competing internationally for their solution to a complex, open-ended math
problem. Participants had 96 hours to propose a solution to the same problem. The Bethel
team was advised by Assistant Professor of Math and Computer Science Nathan Gossett.
Bethel teams have won outstanding (first rank), meritorious (second rank), or honorable mention (third rank) rating in the COMAP competition since 2001.
