The 2008 award winners are:
April Clearwater-Day
April Clearwater-Day, daughter of Jaye Clearwater, is a junior youth ministry major and business minor from Grand Portage, Minn. During her time at Bethel, April has served in middle and high school youth ministry; participated in a one-week mission trip through Mexico Caravan Ministries; mentored in the Multicultural Mentorship Program; served as a teacher’s assistant in the Department of Modern World Languages; was a leader in United Cultures of Bethel (UCB), which involved hosting Native American Celebration Month (November), planning and preparing for the Winter Multicultural Retreat, and developing programming; presented at the International Student Festival at Bethel Seminary, sharing her life, culture, and testimony; participated in REPRESENT; served as director of First Nations as part of the Bethel Student Association; and co-presented "Native American Opportunities" at the 2008 Minnesota Baptist Conference Missions conference.
According to April, "In servant leadership I have learned and grown through experiences. In times of trial I have been taught persistence; in times of silence I have been taught to listen; in times of injustice I have been taught to speak; and —ultimately—in times of opportunity I have been taught to use my gifts."
Christian Ann Drummond
Christian Ann Drummond, daughter of Jody and Dennis Emslie-Drummond, is a junior communication studies major with minors in German and biblical and theological studies from Brainerd, Minn. During her time at Bethel, Christian Ann has led worship as part of an Office of Church Ministries worship team; participated in a Twin Cities Outreach team as part of a kids program at Central Baptist; led and planned a Nelson Residence Hall Women’s Retreat; participated in Gulu Walk and overnight Homeless Awareness Campout in Minneapolis; served as a counselor at Trout Lake Camp; studied abroad on Europe Term; was a RIOT leader for Bodien Residence Hall; organized the Lissner Coffee House; led worship for a Bethel University Girl’s Basketball Camp; served as an assistant resident director; and served on the Women’s History Month Committee.
According to Christian Ann, "As much as I think the Lord calls us to be humble in all we do, He also asks us to be strong and courageous. He wants to see His children flourish in the gifts He has given them; He wants us to do things with excellence, for that may inspire others to pursue those things that God has given them."
Justine Krueger
Justine Krueger, daughter of Jane and Mark Krueger, is a junior elementary education (Spanish specialty) and reconciliation studies double major from Appleton, Wis. During her time at Bethel, Justie has served at the Marie Sanvick Center through Twin Cities Outreach; participated in Super Sunday; served as a counselor and program coordinator at the Gospel Hill Camp; participated in mission trips to Appalachia, W.V., and Chihuahua, Mexico; mentored at Homecrest Elementary School; tutored as part of the SOARS program; was a member and committee head of Welcome Week; served on the Student Activities committee of the Bethel Student Association; and was a team coordinator for the Bethel Buddies program.
According to Justine, "As a leader, I am striving to be humble, vulnerable, authentic, and weak so that through my future opportunities to serve and lead I have no other choice but to turn to the Lord and allow His Spirit to make me strong. So in the future, when I hear the voice of the Lord calling out, ‘Whom shall I send?’ I can only hope I will boldly cry out, ‘Here I am Lord, send me.’"
Sarah Lindenberg
Sarah Lindenberg, daughter of Paul and Robyn Lindenberg, is a junior social studies education and reconciliation studies double major with minors in psychology and leadership from St. Louis Park, Minn. During her time at Bethel, Sarah has served on the Student Activities committee of the Bethel Student Association; was a member of and committee head for transfer students during Welcome Week; participated in Acting on AIDS, specifically as the committee head for the care committee; participated in Super Sunday at the Union Gospel Mission; worked at the Bethel Child Development Center as well as Kidsplace School Age Day Care; participated in the Bethel Women’s Chorale, serving as tour housing coordinator; served as an alternate delegate for two Republican caucuses; was a teacher’s assistant for Freshman Seminar and American Civilization; participated in AVID tutoring at Central High School; spent spring 2007 in South Africa as part of South Africa Term, volunteering at Christel House School and JL Zwane Center in Guguletu Township; served as a freshmen resident assistant; was a Bethel Buddy for Japanese students; and participated in numerous service projects, including Feed My Starving Children, Open Arms of MN, Campus Outreach Day, People Serving People, and the King Child Development Center.
According to Sarah, "I believe we are all called to leadership because God intends for us to serve Him according to our own strengths. Leadership is not limited to a position; it is most certainly an everyday, everyway commitment to lead by example, do what is righteous, include others, maintain a good attitude, and empower others."
Kyle Roff
Kyle Roff, son of Randy and Wendy Roff, is a junior elementary education major with middle level specialties in Spanish and social studies from Duluth, Minn. During his time at Bethel, Kyle has done one-on-one tutoring with Living Hope Ministries through Twin Cities Outreach (TCO); volunteered and served as a leader at Nueva Esperanza Community Church through TCO; served as a TCO leader for Salem E-Free ESL classes/tutoring program; volunteered at North Heights Lutheran Church for a special needs dance called Friday Night Lights; performed service learning for a Spanish homeschooling class and for an SLA class as part of an ELL class at Phalen Lake Elementary School; spent a semester in Guatemala as part of a study abroad experience, which involved teaching English and working at various ministry sites; been a frequent blood donor; and served as a volunteer hospitality worker at Mercy Vineyard Church in Duluth, Minn.
