The first cohort for the graduate-level Certificate in
International Baccalaureate* (IB) Education for K-12 instructors begins in June 2009.
All teachers teaching in an authorized IB school are required to have professional development. One of the ways teachers can satisfy this requirement is by completing a recognized program at one of the six approved colleges in the world, now including Bethel. Teachers participating in Bethel’s certificate program can also apply those credits toward their master’s in education (K-12) degree.
Program Features:
“Philosophically, I see the mission and values of Bethel aligning well with those of the IB,” explains Jay Rasmussen, professor of education and director of the Certificate in International Baccalaureate Education program. “Both institutions share a concern about offering high-quality education, developing the whole person, and encouraging world-mindedness in learners.”
Bethel is the first university in Minnesota, the third in the nation, and the sixth in the world to be recognized by the International Baccalaureate to offer Level 1 IB Teacher Award professional development. The International Baccalaureate offers challenging K-12 educational programs through approximately 2,447 participating schools in 131 countries worldwide, including 440 programs in the United States. Its mission is to “create a better world through quality education.”
