Praying In the New School Year

Publication date: Aug 26, 2009 8:57 a.m.

Twenty-some members of the Bethel University community gathered on Monday, August 17, for a prayer walk throughout the St. Paul campus. Walking the grounds, they prayed over Bethel’s buildings and those who work, learn, and teach inside as the 2009-2010 academic school year begins. "Bethel is blessed to have praying friends who give an evening of their time to cover the campus with their prayers," says Judy Moseman, Bethel’s National Prayer Initiative (NPI) director. The evening ended with fellowship and coffee in the Brushaber Commons courtyard, as well as a brief update from President Jay Barnes.

Many of those who participated in the prayer walk are also members of NPI—groups and individuals who believe in the power of prayer and strongly affirm Bethel’s mission; they meet regularly to pray for Bethel’s specific needs.

“Jesus reminds us in Matthew 18:20, ‘For where two or more come together in my name, there I am with them,’” says Barnes. “As we focus our walk with Christ at Bethel, he wants to hear our voices and have us in unity.”
