The publication of Coming Together in the 21st Century: The Bible's Message in an Age of Diversity by Bethel Professor Curtiss DeYoung involved several Bethel alumni, faculty, and friends. The revised and expanded book is coming out on the 15th anniversary of its original publication. Among other additions, this new version includes contributions from ethnically and culturally diverse men and women; a roundtable on the Bible, liberation, and reconciliation with Brenda Salter-McNeil, Richard Twiss, Jean Zaru, and Allan Boesak; and a group reflection and action guide.
A few Bethel connections:
-The cover art for the book is designed by Kyle Johanson CAS’09.
-A chapter on gender is written by adjunct faculty Mimi Haddad.
-The group reflection and action guide is written by adjunct faculty Robin
Bell.
-Several Bethel chapel speakers contributed to the book including Cain Hope
Felder, Brenda Salter McNeil, Allan Boesak, Richard Twiss, Shane Claiborne, and
Soong Chan Rah.
-Lauren Alden, the publisher at Judson Press, is a Bethel alumna.
-The book is dedicated to the late Terry Coffee, Bethel’s first director of
multicultural development.
