The History Center

Archives of Bethel University and Converge

The Archives, officially known as the History Center: Archives of Bethel University and Converge, serves as the repository for collections that document the unique history and culture of Bethel and its founding denomination, the Baptist General Conference, now called Converge. The History Center’s collection scope ranges from Bethel personnel and institutional history to denominational founders, church leaders, and missionary work.

The Special Collections consist of unique and rare books, primarily in the Swedish language. Bethel’s unique history as an institution founded by Swedish immigrants with a pietistic faith leaves a legacy of devotional literature, hymnals, and rare books that contribute to research in Scandinavian studies, North American and European religious history, evangelical Christianity, and musicology.

The History Center's mission is to preserve historic and rare materials of many formats, as well as to provide access to these primary sources for researchers. The History Center supports Bethel University by preserving evidentiary records that document the school's historical pursuit of its mission to prepare graduates to serve in strategic capacities to renew minds, live out biblical truth, transform culture, and advance the gospel.
