Latino Community Organizing Intern, Family and Children's Service, Minneapolis, MN

  • This internship opportunity is available to both upper level undergraduate and graduate students in any area

Job Description:

  • Provide a variety of support services for Northwestern College students across campus under the guidelines established by the Center of Academic Programs for Support Services (CAPPS)
  • Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

    • Provide individual services for currently enrolled Northwestern College students, (i.e. participate in the following intake/ interview events):

      • Assist in the collection of in-take data
      • Discuss and classify level of need
      • Arrange tutoring and/ or note taking with the ALPHA Center
      • Attend SST meetings
      • Other meetings as directed
    • Be familiar with assessments related to ADA
    • Be familiar with family social systems
    • Be familiar with the impact on learning as related to one's culture, language or transitional needs into college

    • Adhere to FERPA standards of ethical practices
    • Maintain weekly involvement with staff and confidentiality
    • Keep update case and summary notes of services and communications on enrolled students receiving services
    • Maintain professional and ethical standards throughout employment at Northwestern College
    • Abide by all College policies

Qualifications:

  • A current graduate level student enrolled in a Master's level program that requires an internship in either counseling, social work, special education, vocational counselor or another ADA related fields of study
  • Basic experience working with individuals with special needs
  • Have experience with diverse populations (e.g. culture, language, those with transitional needs, or needs related to ADA)
  • An articulated framework on the relationship between the discipline of your related field and the Christian faith
  • Maintain and understand the agreement with Northwestern College's responsibilities of Membership and Doctrinal Statement
  • Time commitment:

    • either 1 full academic year of 1 full academic term between: August 15th- June 15th
    • Weekly: 20-25 hours
    • Meet weekly with CLT and DOSS students and staff
