University Commons Update
Rainfall in late summer 2007 slowed construction for Bethel’s new University Commons and crews had to brave sub-zero weather in January, but the facility is still on schedule to open March 1, 2009.
Concrete walls, support beams, and a giant crane moving overhead are signs that more elbow room will be available soon for a student body of 2,800 sharing a campus originally built for 1,000.
University Commons will provide much needed community gathering space and more than double current dining and bookstore capacity. It will also house student government, student life offices, the Clarion student newspaper, a casual assembly space, and several lounges and meeting rooms. In addition, space vacated in existing buildings will be renovated to create more instructional space.
Well on its way to becoming a beautiful and functional part of the campus, University Commons will benefit Bethel scholars for decades to come!
