Bethel benefits from timely designated gifts and grants for specific
needs. These include gifts toward financial aid, equipment, and new program
initiatives. Examples of recent designated gifts include:
Support of journalism
An innovative combination of both annual and
endowed support of Bethel’s journalism program by newspaper publisher
Gene Johnson and his wife Kathy. The gift creates the Johnson Center
for Journalism and Communication, committed to developing excellent and
ethical Christian media professionals.
Support of chemistry research
A gift of $100,000 from retiring chemistry professor Dale Stephens to
support more summer chemistry research projects for faculty and students.
The donation is a matching gift intended to encourage others to support
Bethel’s chemistry program, as a part
of the President’s
Sciences Initiative.
Support of pastoral development
A nearly $700,000
gift from the Kern Family Foundation to the College of Arts & Sciences
at Bethel, to fund a program that will motivate and equip more graduates
to go on to seminary, and become effective church leaders.
