Late-life Investments Used to Bless Others
Doug and June Stimers

Doug and June StimersDoug and June Stimers had ministered together as husband and wife for more than 65 years before June’s death left a huge hole in Doug’s life. To honor her memory, Doug contacted the seminary hoping to establish an endowed scholarship to benefit a female seminary student with the spiritual gift of hospitality—a gift June beautifully demonstrated during her years on earth.

Doug and June ministered for 50 years in churches of the Baptist General Conference (BGC) in Canada and the U.S. Only five years from retirement, the Stimers did not own a home and had a mere $10,000 in retirement savings. A friend, a Christian financial planner, advised them to invest that money for the future.

Eventually, the Stimers’ small investment, made late in life, grew into several hundred thousand dollars. Now they are blessing Bethel Seminary students with what God has given them through the endowed E. June Stimers Scholarship. In addition, Doug has employed simple but strategic estate planning tools to further the impact of his estate beyond his lifetime. Not only will his family be well provided for, but also the ministries about which he and June have cared so deeply will receive significant gifts.
