Bethel Education Students Featured in Star Tribune Story
Several Bethel University education students were featured in a Minneapolis Star Tribune article about innovative efforts area K-12 schools are making to boost student performance.
As part of North End Elementary's (St. Paul, Minn.) creative solution, nine Bethel students spend
their days taking
their college courses, taught by Bethel faculty, on site in the morning
and late afternoon, while gaining hands-on teaching experience in
between.
Bethel Community Helps Choose New Website Design

Earlier in October, 35,000 Bethel students, employees, alumni, and parents were sent surveys to gather feedback on three potential website designs. Approximately 3,500 people responded to the survey—the highest percentage of responses the redesign firm mStoner has seen in their work with colleges and universities. In addition, there was a clear consensus as to which design was the community's favorite.
Bethel University Web Services will now work with mStoner to refine and improve the chosen concept. Read more on the chosen design.
Bethel University Football Player Featured on WCCO-TV

Bethel University senior and football player Reid Velo was recently featured on WCCO-TV's Rosen Sports Sunday. Velo was selected to the 2009 Allstate AFCA Good Works Teams,
an award given to student-athletes who excel in sports and in life.
"Great quickness, great sense of the game, incredible toughness," Bethel football coach Steve Johnson told WCCO in an interview. "But it's hard to talk about him
as a football player without (talking about) the kind of guy that he
is. He's got a humble heart."
Mary Anderson Pawlenty is 2009 Alumna of the Year

Bethel University named Mary Anderson Pawlenty ’83 Alumna of the Year. Pawlenty, who
is First Lady of Minnesota, accepted the award on Friday, September 25, in a
Homecoming convocation at Bethel.
“Apart from any spotlight that has come to Mary by
association, she has long deserved this honor in her own right,” Bethel
University Vice President for Constituent Relations Ralph Gustafson said in his
introduction of Pawlenty at Homecoming. “Mary is a world-changer. She
is smart and funny, hard-working, driven, and kind. She is, quite simply, a
remarkable woman who has rendered Christ-like public service throughout her
24-year career as a lawyer, judge, Bethel trustee, and advocate for family and
health issues.”
Bethel Seminary San Diego’s Marital and Family Therapy Program Earns National Accreditation
Bethel
Seminary San Diego's Master of Arts in Marital and Family Therapy (MFT) received national accreditation by the Commission on
Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).
"Accreditation
is a very important indicator that draws serious students to us," says G. Keith
Olson, program director and lead faculty. "The COAMFTE is so important because
it provides the highest level national professional accreditation available to
MFT programs."
How
high are the standards? "Bethel Seminary San Diego’s MFT program is the only
seminary program in the state of California and one of only four seminary
programs nationwide to currently have this accreditation," Olson explains. "There
are only seven schools of all types in California who have COAMFTE accredited
master’s programs."
Bethel’s Business Degree with Human Resources Emphasis Receives Recognition
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently
acknowledged that
Bethel’s Bachelor
of Arts in Business with an emphasis in Human Resource Management fully
aligns with its recommended guidelines for undergraduate education in
human resources.
"SHRM is the
professional organization for human resources worldwide; their
recognition acknowledges that we are on track for training future HR
professionals," said Joyce LeMay, professor of business and economics.
"Preparedness through knowledge development and credibility are so important in today's
business world. This is just another way to show students and future employers
that we have the credibility to help students prepare to enter the workforce,"
said LeMay.
