Nathan Cornelius, guitar
Nathan Cornelius graduated from Bethel University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Music degree in guitar performance. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree with a double concentration in composition and guitar performance at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music, where he is also a graduate assistant in music theory. His primary guitar teachers have included Jeffrey Van, David Crittenden, Jonathan Leathwood, and Ricardo Iznaola.
Recently, his compositions have been premiered by the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and by international musical saw champion Caroline McCaskey (the first-ever classical composition for guitar and musical saw). During his time at Bethel, Nathan also enjoyed researching art history, singing in the Bethel Choir, traveling to Israel on study abroad, and throwing pots in the ceramics studio. Nathan is deeply interested in the connections between music and the visual arts as they embody the values of a civilization, and he hopes to compose music that both reflects his Christian faith and leavens the imagination of the culture.
