In this delightful comedy, Ethel Savage has been left with a substantial amount of money by her late husband. She is determined to give away millions to help others realize their hopes and dreams. But her stepchildren stand as obstacles in her way, commiting her to a sanatorium where she meets various social misfits. The audience is lead to wonder just who and what is normal in a world that seems motivated at times only by greed and dishonesty. The play, written by John Patrick in 1950, seems just as relevant in our 21st century where the virtues of kindness and generosity seem neglected by our culture.
Playwright John Patrick is perhaps best remembered for his script Teahouse of the August Moon which not only won a Tony on Broadway but also a Pulitzer and New York Drama Critics Circle Award.
