Prepare for Graduation

Graduation Form

All graduating students must submit their commencement information by November 30 (and no earlier than October 21). This form provides us with important information, such as the correct pronunciation of your name at the ceremony.

Graduation Gifts for You

Come visit us in the Office of Alumni and Parent Services after October 21 to receive your gifts from the university.

Online Loan Exit Counseling

If you borrowed a Federal Loan while attending Bethel, you will need to complete online loan exit counseling before you graduate. About 1 month before you graduate, the Office of Financial Aid will send you details about your borrowing history, repayment options, and specific exit instructions.

In the meantime, you can visit the National Student Loan Data System, which will provide you with information on your federal student loans.

Career Survey

Please complete an online survey for the Office of Career Development and Calling. The survey collects information on how you utilized our office's services during your Bethel experience. It will allow us to better serve you now and throughout your career.

On-Campus Housing Cancellation

If you're in Bethel housing, contact Student Life to cancel your lease for the remainder of the academic year.

Academic Requirements and Diplomas

You will receive a diploma cover at commencement. You will NOT receive your actual diploma. When you have met all academic requirements and other obligations to the university, the Office of the Registrar will post your degree to your transcript and mail your diploma to your permanent address.

Obligations include:

  • Final payments
  • Campus Store charges
  • Library charges and loans
  • Parking fines
  • Stafford loan exit requirements

Your diploma will bear your legal name (your name on the date of commencement). There are no exceptions. If you plan to change your name shortly before commencement, contact the Office of the Registrar.

Allow 4 weeks for your diploma to arrive once your degree has been posted.

A news release announcing your graduation will be sent to your hometown newspaper. Your hometown newspaper is identified by the zip code of your permanent address. If you do not want a news release sent, or if you would like a news release sent to a different newspaper, submit a request with the Office of Communications and Marketing.

You can receive 10 free commencement announcement cards for mailing to family and friends while supplies last. Once you've submitted your graduation information you can pick up the cards in the Office of Alumni and Parent Services.

Regalia (Commencement Apparel)

Before commencement day, pick up your cap and gown in the Campus Store during regalia pickup hours. Please bring your student ID.

Your regalia will be ordered for you and is yours to keep. If you have questions about your regalia, contact Brenda Edinger in the Campus Store.

Press your gown with a cool iron before commencement. Your cap is to be worn level, not tilted to the side or to the back, with the tassel on the right side.
