Douglas Fombelle
Dean and Executive Officer, Bethel Seminary of the East
Douglas Fombelle, Ph.D., has been the dean and executive officer of Bethel Seminary of the East New England and Metro D.C. Teaching Centers for 8 years, but his Bethel connections span much more time.
He and his wife Cathy, who have 2 grown sons, began at Bethel Seminary in 1974 as newlyweds. He completed the Master of Divinity in 1977, and they moved to New York, where they served at a Converge Worldwide church for 26 years. Doug returned to Bethel Seminary in the 1990's to complete the Doctor of Ministry degree program, and he took his current position in 2003.
Why Doug Enjoys His Work
At Bethel, he gets satisfaction watching students grow, mature, and sense their own calling to serve God. “When someone experiences the clear calling of God to serve, there is a time of accelerated growth that is very exciting,” he says.
Favorite Bethel Experience
His favorite Bethel experience is the Annual Fall Bethel Seminary of the East Round Table Leadership Dinners. “There have been wonderful times of connecting with some of the finest New England pastoral leaders, and many of our constituents, alumni, and current students,” he said.
