Blackboard Course Creator, TA Enrollment, and Enrollment Request Form

Instructor Role in Blackboard is reserved for TEU - load credit instructors ONLY and ALL instructors are added automatically to Blackboard by the Blackboard- Banner integration provided by the Blackboard Course Utility.
Student Role in Blackboard is reserved in credit/transcript courses for REGISTERED/NO HOLDS, FEE PAID students and are added automatically to Blackboard once the course has been created using the Blackboard Course Utility.
TA Role in Blackboard is used for any non-instructor or non-student in a Blackboard course.  Note: TA role gives permissions to all areas of a Blackboard course very similar to the Instructor role and so MUST NOT be given to a student taking the course and FERPA standards/restrictions apply to any such person added to a Blackboard course.

[NOTE: After you create your course you must WAIT 15 MINUTES for the course to appear in your Blackboard list.]

Instructors (and program support staff) use this tool to create new Blackboard courses for Bethel University for credit and required program (transcript listed ) courses.

[Note: If your course(s) do not show up in the Blackboard Course Creator, please contact the REGISTRAR'S OFFICE and NOT Blackboard Support.

  1. On the Create Courses tab in the Blackboard Course Utility select the Session/Term in the Left "Courses" box.
  2. Check the check boxes for courses you wish to create. (Note: if you wish to group courses ONLY select courses you wish to group or you might end up "grouping" unrelated courses.)
  3. Click the "Add Courses to Blackboard Course" button at the bottom of the left "Courses" box. This moves the selected courses into the right "New Blackboard Courses" box.
  4. If you are not grouping courses (no "Grouping" selected) then simply click the "Create Courses" button.Grouping [Optional]: If you are grouping sections/cohorts together, then select the appropriate choice of ONE common course (choice 1) or one common course PLUS separate  Blackboard courses for EACH section (choice 2).
  5. Add TA [Optional] Type First Name last name and select the TA from the list and click the "Add" button. You can add TAs later using the TA Manager -- see below. [Attempting to Add TAs using the Create Courses tab AFTER the course shows a Red "[BB]" will NOT WORK.]
  6. Click the "Create Course" button, and you should immediately see a yellow announcement that your course has been set for creation.  in FIFTEEN MINUTES your course will appear in Blackboard with all currently enrolled students. [Detailed Course Creation Instructions]

ADD TAs

[Be sure to SELECT the TA Manager tab of Blackboard Course Utility]

TA enrollments happen at 6 am and pm daily so be patient.

Instructors (and program support staff) use this tool to add persons to the TA role in Blackboard.

TA role in Blackboard may be used for:

  • Teaching Assistants
  • Interns
  • Mentees
  • Mentors
  • Supervisors
  • Program Directors

[Detailed TA Manager Instructions]

  1. Select the "TA Manager" tab in the Blackboard Course Utility.
  2. Your courses are listed.  Click on one of your current or upcoming courses. Fall 2010 courses are listed as 2011, e.g. NUR2991201111. [Note: This tool will not allow addition of a TA to a previous semester course.]
  3. In the Add TA: blank, type the firstname lastname of  the person you wish to add.
  4. Select the name from the list so that the name is highlighted in yellow.
  5. Click on the yellow highlighted name (or use your tab or enter key) to enter your TA in the Add TA blank.
  6. Click the "Add" button.  The TA should then show up above the Add TA box with a Red X to the right of the TAs name.
  7. When you wish to delete a TA, come back to the same place and then click the red X next to that TAs name.

TA enrollment is updated in Blackboard every day at 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Other Enrollment Requests

Non Credit Blackboard Course Enrollment Request Form

Any Bethel Employee, faculty or staff, can request and use Blackboard for academic support and training, where Blackboard use is appropriate.

Use this form also to request other exceptions or other role use in Blackboard (Course Builder, Grader).

General non-Blackboard appropriate uses should use BLink Groups Studio.

Fill in the form as requested for manual course creation and enrollment by the Blackboard staff.
