Course Copy Errors when GradeCenter and Assignments included

 Blackboard Case ID: 625518

Case Summary: Course Copy errors if include "Grade Center Columns and Settings"

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a known issue for Service Pack 5 for Release 8  8.0.422.7    June 17, 2009.

When performing a course copy into an existing course and selecting to include the grade center among the copied items, the system fails to copy the course correctly.

[Blackboard Location: Control Panel >> Course Copy  >> Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course]

 Cause:

A change was made in SP5 to avoid the creation of duplicate default gradebook items during course copy – this avoids copying of the Total-columns, but the procedure copying the gradebook formulas associated with such calculated columns is still trying to copy their dependent formulas. As the columns themselves were not copied, the formulas cannot be copied either, and the procedure fails.

Here is the "workaround" provided by Blackboard:

Copy everything into the new course except assignments and gradecenter, once all content items have been copied over then copy over the assignments and gradecenter.

Or if you have already performed a course copy operation with the content is appearing but the gradecenter has errors, perform another copy operation into the same target course from the source with just assignments and the gradecenter simultaneously.
