Blogs

Policy:

Bethel University provides the ability to create both personal and institutional blog.  Note  Bethel is under no obligation to provide a personal blog to anyone. Personal blogs will be provided to responsible community members.

Blog maintainers need to recognize that:
  • A blog is a revocable privilege.
  • Using the Bethel network means  to host blogs means that the blog represents Bethel just as much as it does the individual. Content of the blog must comply with Bethel's Computing Acceptable Use Policy.

Network Ethics, Etiquette, and Legality

  • All individuals using Bethel's computing equipment and connections must abide by Bethel's policies regarding ethical and legal use of resources. This policy is presented in the document Computing Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Authors of HTML documents are responsible for what they allow others to access on their pages or through a direct link from one of their pages.

Blog Content

  • In general blogs represent both the individual and Bethel. Material needs to conform to the mission of the institution as well as the interests of the individual.

Blog Content Guidelines

  • Direct links to illegal, socially harmful, or pornographic material are not permitted.
  • Text, images, or sounds which violate Bethel Lifestyle expectations or which are illegal according to local, state, national, or international laws are not permitted.
  • You may not create pages that contain material copyrighted by someone other than yourself unless permission has been obtained from the copyright holder. The original author and copyright holder should be clearly and fully acknowledged if permission is given. You should even be cautious about creating links to pages that contain unapproved copyrighted material.
  • You may not use Bethel's resources for commercial gain.

Group/Department/Class blogs will be availalbe for the lifetime of the group, department, or class. If a semester closes and the class will exist again within two academic years then the blog for that class will not expire unless requested.

  • Department Blogs will be available until the Department Chair for the department, the blog maintainer, or the Office of the Provost submits a request for the blog to expire.
  • Class Blogs will be available until the blog maintainer, class professor, or the Office of the Provost requests for the blog to expire.
  • Group Blogs will be available until the group no longer exists or the blog maintainer for the group requests that the blog expire.

If a blog maintainer will be transferring control of the blog to a different individual then the blog maintainer must submit a request, to ITS, to transfer blog ownership.

Personal Blogs

Personal Blogs will expire when the blog maintainer's Bethel Community Account expires or the blog maintainer requests that the blog expire.
