AUTOMATIC LOG OFF DUE TO SERVER SECURITY
I keep getting locked out of exams or timed out right when I start an exam.
If you have problems initially accessing an exam or survey "double-clicking" may be the problem.
If you double click on the link to the exam, you will get the message that you have already taken the exam. DO NOT double click anywhere within blackboard. The only solution for this is for the instructor to reset the student's exam so that they can access it again to actually take the exam.
I can't complete my exam (especially essay questions) beyond a certain point as the exam will not let me type my answers in the answer box.
This is a known issue with Internet Explorer on some systems. When you run into this issue, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Save" button to the left of the "Submit" button (NOTE: Do NOT click on the Submit button until you are entirely done with your exam.) After you have "saved" the exam you should be able to continue with the exam. If you save the entire exam periodically (NOT EACH QUESTION SAVE) you should be able to complete your exam with out problems. Then "Save" once more prior to "Submit"ing your exam.
I have heard that if you take a long time on an exam you can lose your entire exam.
The issue here is that many Internet Service Providers have
security systems that log users off automatically after a period of inactivtiy.
If you take a long time on an assessment (exam or survey) you may be automatically
"disconnected". When you don't move from web page to web page the
system considers you inactive, even though you are actively taking an exam.
You must then re-check your connection and re-connect prior to submitting your exam.
Students can prevent from being timed out by Bethel, Blackboard or by their
Internet Service Provider by following the following instructions.
1. Check the connection to your INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER. Open up a new page in your browser by going to the File menu and selecting New Window. Then browse to a page that you are certain that you have NOT accessed recently. Alternatively if you have a "connection monitor" button, you can check the status of your connection in that way.
2. Check your connection to Bethel's Blackboard System.
Again go to the
File menu and select New Window
(Never try to browse to a new page, or go
Back or Forward in the window in which you are taking your exam as you will
lose all of your exam.).
In that new window go to your My Blackboard and
enter the course in which you are taking your exam.
Click on a button that
will take you to an area WITHTIN THAT COURSE that you have not recently visited.
If you can access
new pages in blackboard then you should be able to successfully submit your
exam in the window in which your exam resides.
If in the new window, you
must re-authenticate, then log in again and then make sure you can access
blackboard pages successfully and then go back to your exam window and submit
the exam.
If you have other exam related problems, please contact your instructor or the help desk (651-638-6500).
