Printing the Gradebook in Blackboard

image 2

1. Go to the Control Panel in your course.

2. Right-Click (Mac - Control-Click) on the LINK titled Gradebook, and select from the popup menu "Open Link in New window"

What this does is to open the page outside of the frames structure of Blackboard which will allow you to print the page. [Please NOTE: You can ONLY PRINT ONE PAGE using this method..... see Filter/Sort Options in 3 below or DownLoad your Gradebook in 4 below.]

3. Change the orientation of your page for printing to landscape view (sideways) in your print/page setup. You may also have to change the "scaling" in the Page Setup or in the Print dialog (layout/advanced/scaling in Internet Explorer-Windows).  If your page is still too wide to fit then you can use the "Filter items" or "Sort Items" choices in the Gradebook to show subcomponents of your gradebook so that you can get pages of all the items printed.

4. Use the Download Grades feature in Blackboard

  • Click on Control Panel
  • Select Gradebook

    • Click on the "Download Grades" link
    • Leave all the defaults (Tab) and click submit.
    • Right-click on the Download button (Mac: Control-Click) and select "Save target as" (IE) or "Save link as" (Firefox). I recommend saving these to your desktop or to your specific course folder.
    • Open Excel and use the File/Open menu selections
    • Go to your desktop or the folder where you saved the file.  If you did not change the file name, then find a file named gb_export and click "Open" once you have selected the file.  If the Import wizard opens, select the defaults (delimited, Tab, General) and then finish.
(Alternately just right click on the file gb_export on your desktop and from the dialog that opens select "Open With Microsoft Excel" (you might have to use the choose program choice to find Excel in your Program Files folder on the C drive.)

(On a Macintosh, this may be the only way to open the file, as the system may not automatically associate the saved file with Excel. **Note you will have to select 'All Documents' from the Enable drop down in order to open the file.)

  • Use Excel to Format your page for printing. Please call the Help Desk if you need help with formatting and printing your Excel Gradesheet (6500 #1 or #3)
