Deploy Your Survey


Deployment of your survey is a little bit tricky, and not really easy.  We will go through the steps here to make your survey available to your students through a link on your main menu.

The first step is to add a content item in Blackboard.
You should be at the Control Panel to make this happen.
I would like to add a link to my survey on the main menu, so we will need to create a Menu Item, this is done from the Manage Course Menu item in the Course Options section.

Once we are in the Manage Course Menu we want to add a Content Area.

In the Add New Area page we will type "Survey" into the Name Box, and hit the Submit Button.  
The Available for Student box is checked by default.  Then acknowledge the change on the next screen and you will be returned to the Manage Course Menu.

Now back at the Manage Course Menu area you will see that your Survey Content Area is the last item on the list.  You can leave it here, or you can move it's location.  I have chosen to move it to position #7 under my Discussion Board Link.

Now return to your main course page and you will see your newly created Link.

Click this link, and we will enter our empty folder, we will need to add our survey, so click the Edit View link.

In the empty folder we will need to add an item.  Select Survey from the Pulldown Menu, and hit the Go Button.

You are now in the Add Survey Page, you will see your survey in the box.  Select it and click Submit.
Acknowledge that the survey was added and you will be returned to the Modify Survey Page.

From the Modify Survey Page you can go in and access the survey canvas or modify the options of your survey.  
We need to make the survey available, so please go to the Modify the Survey Options link.

There are many things that can be modified here, and feel free to look around.  The one we are concerned about right now is to make the survey available to the students.  This switch is found in Survey Availability (Section 2).  
Toggle the radio button to yes on Make the link available.

You can play around with the other options, but we will now exit by clicking the Submit Button at the bottom of the page.

Acknowledge the change.  Click OK once again to return to the Survey page

One more OK and we are back at our Course Front Page.
Now you can click on the Survey Link, and proceed to take the survey.

As was discussed earlier, now that your survey has been successfully deployed it will be in your Grade Book, so that you can track your students progress.  (remember the Grade Book is accessed through Control Panel in the Assessment Section)
