Create Your Survey


You know about all the choices you have available on the canvas.  For this exercise we will just be using two of them.  We will Use the  Opinion Scale/Likert Question and a Short Answer Question.

I suggest you grab a cup of coffee, and we will proceed.

This survey will ask some questions of your students, and have them rate their response with the following choices:
(Per the Opinion Scale)

  • Strongly Agree
  • Agree
  • Neither Agree nor Disagree
  • Disagree
  • Strongly Disagree
  • Not Applicable

To add our first question Choose the Opinion Scale/Likert from the pulldown menu and click GO.

This will take us to the page where we can create our Question.
You will notice that the only required field in this whole page is the Question Text.  The Blackboard people have done an outstanding job with the default choices, so we will stick with them.  (It doesn't get much easier than this)

After you have entered your question text, scroll to the bottom of the page and press submit.

You have now been returned to the Survey Canvas with your question embedded.

You only have one question, so the order doesn't really make a difference here.  After you have many questions you can use the pulldown box to change the order of the questions.  You can also add questions before or after depending on which link you follow with the text "Add Question Here".

You can now continue to add as many questions as you like.  For this survey we will just add one more question, and it will be a Short Answer, and we will add it at the end.  Notice again the Question Text is the only required field, and we will keep the defaults.

After you are done, hit submit and we are back at the canvas.
We can see our Two Questions, and if they are satisfactory we can click the OK button at the bottom of the page.

This returns us to the Survey Manager, and you can see that the "My Class Survey" is complete.
Note the buttons that will allow you to Modify - Remove - or Export your survey.

The instructions tell you that after you have created your survey you will need to add it to a content area and make it available.  We will discuss this deployment in the next section.
Just hit the Ok button and you are returned to the Control panel.

Now your survey is complete, and we will explore the steps to make it available to your students.
