Centralizing Departmental Folders

Moving to BSP-NAS, the upgrade replacement for the servers Usonia2 and Samuel, provided the opportunity to better organize the departmental folders into a centralized network location. The departmental folders will go from being spread over three servers and multiple drives to being centralized in one departmental drive with each of the individual departments' folders. Here's a look at the general structure.

The new departmental folder location is the Q: drive or \\bsp-nas\Departments\. Within each of the department' folders are three subfolders that are under the responsibility of the associated departments:

  • Dept: available only the department staff/faculty and student workers. This corresponds to the O: drive for staff and Usonia2\Dept Folders for faculty.

  • Shared: read/write to all the department staff and student workers, read only to all staff and faculty. This corresponds to the S: drive or share drive on Samuel. This is the location where interdepartmental folders should be created. For example if the History Department would like to share a folder with the Philosophy Department, a folder could be created in the History Department's shared subfolder.

  • Public: read/write to all the department staff and student workers, read only to all staff, faculty and students. This is the location where a folder could be shared with a students that are not student workers, but need access to a folder with a faculty or administrative office.
