Change in Bethel LDAP Directory Service Setting

The LDAP Directory service allows Bethel users to search for email address of all the students, staff, and faculty from within their email program. This summer a change was made with the server that requires a change in the configuration. For those who have not yet added LDAP directory service, these directions will assist in taking advantage of it. For those who had previously added it, these directions will assist in making the change.

Directions are available for:
Outlook | Outlook Express | Entourage

Outlook 2002

  1. Click on Tools from the main menu in Outlook 2002.
  2. Click on E-mail Accounts from the pull down menu.
  3. Select Add a new directory or address book and then click the Next button.
  4. Select Internet directory service LDAP and then click the Next button.
  5. Enter ldap.bethel.edu into the field titled Server Name: and then click the More Settings button.
  6. Click the OK button for the pop window that informs you that you will need to restart Outlook.
  7. Click on the Search tab and then enter dc=bethel,dc=edu into the field titled Search Base:

  8. Click the OK button, then the Next button, and finally click the Finish button.
  9. Exit Outlook and then open it up again.


To access Bethel's LDAP directory, open the address book and then select ldap.bethel.edu from the pull down menu titled Show names from: Click on the find items button and then enter the name of the person that you are searching for.

Outlook Express

  1. Click on Tools from the main menu in Outlook Express.
  2. Click on Accounts from the pull down menu.
  3. Click on the Add button then select Directory Service.
  4. In the Internet directory service LDAP field type: ldap.bethel.edu and then click the Next button.
  5. Click the Yes option for "Do you want to check addresses using this directory service?
  6. Click the Next and then the Finish buttons. This will return you to the accounts page.
  7. Double click on ldap.bethel.edu in the main field.
  8. Click on the Advanced tab and then type dc=bethel,dc=edu into the field titled Search Base:
  9. Click the OK button, then the Close button.

Entourage

  1. Click on Tools from the main menu in Entourage.
  2. Click on Accounts from the pull down menu.
  3. Click on the Directory Service tab and then click New.
  4. In the Account name: field type: Bethel LDAP In the LDAP server: field type:
  5. ldap.bethel.edu and then click the Options tab

  6. In the Search base field type: dc=bethel,dc=edu.
  7. Click the OK button and then close the Account window to return to the main Entourage window.
