Alumnus of the Year Addresses Bethel Community in Chapel

Paul Healy, Alumnus of the Year, shared how Bethel equipped him to found the Children's Shelter of Cebu in the Philippines.

Paul Healy, from the Class of 1977, was named 2012’s College of Arts & Sciences Alumnus of the Year. He addressed the Bethel community in Chapel on October 5, the first day of Homecoming activities for alumni.

Healy shared the journey that he and his wife Marlys embarked on: caring for homeless children in the Philippines. For more than 33 years, the Healy’s ministry, The Children’s Shelter of Cebu, has provided a loving, Christ-centered home with comprehensive medical, educational, and placement services for homeless Filipino children.

The former Bethel basketball player and son of professor emeritus Jerry Healy detailed the many ways that Bethel has been a part of the ministry, describing how Bethel friends have been involved with and have supported the ministry.
