Guest speaker Steve Fitzhugh speaks to students in the St. Paul Ed.D. program.

Beginning in January, Bethel’s Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) will add San Diego to its locations for the program’s annual week-long residencies in the Higher Education major. Classes and other activities will be held at Bethel Seminary San Diego, with online courses to be taken the rest of the year. Summer residencies in St. Paul, Minnesota, will continue to be offered, where the program has been in existence for 10 years. Ed.D. program faculty will serve both residential sites.

The Doctor of Education: Leadership in Higher Education program is primarily online with a one-week residency each of three Januarys in San Diego or each of three summers in St. Paul. The non-residency courses are taken online, one at a time, with two in the fall/winter and two in the winter/spring.

Program Director Craig Paulson expects that the additional residency location will attract more students with differing schedules. “Having a cohort start in St. Paul, Minnesota, in the summer and also in San Diego in January should be helpful to those in higher education when it comes to accommodating various schedules,” he says. “Plus, the January weather in San Diego compared to St. Paul is an obvious bonus!”

Paulson says that one of the distinctives of Bethel’s Ed.D. program is its essential focus on “faith- informed relational leadership.” Students from 32 countries and 37 U.S. states have been enrolled in the program. Faculty members are flexible and committed to meeting students’ interests as well as their schedules.

Faculty and staff members of schools within the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) are offered a 100% tuition scholarship for the final six credits of dissertation work. Applicants must have earned a qualifying master’s degree, be an employee at a CCCU member institution at the time they are admitted, and be in good academic and financial standing with that institution. Applicants must meet all other regular Bethel Ed.D. admission requirements. The discount applies to both sites.
