Required Insurance
At Bethel, we want to do all we can to help you successfully navigate through college life, and sometimes that means managing unexpected challenges due to illness or injury. Having health insurance helps you get the care you need and can keep medical expenses from derailing your educational goals.
Because of this, all Bethel students enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences are required to have health insurance--even students enrolled for only one credit--through a family plan, an individual plan, or a plan that Bethel provides through a student health insurance provider, called Student Assurance Services. The plan must have a minimum of $50,000 coverage for each accident or sickness.
Providing Your Health Insurance Information
If you have health insurance through a family or individual plan, you must provide the necessary information on the insurance waiver form through Blink (Banner icon > Student tab > Student Health > Insurance Waiver Form).
You’ll need:
- Name of health insurance company
- Policy number
- Policy holder's name.
If you do not complete the waiver, you will automatically be billed the yearly insurance premium for SAS’s policy. This charge is not refundable.
The deadline to complete this waiver form for all students enrolled for the 2012-13 academic year is September 10, 2012. For those entering Bethel for Interim/Spring 2013 term, the deadline is February 12, 2013.
If you’re a College of Arts & Sciences student and want Bethel’s plan through SAS, you can purchase the plan through Blink (Banner icon > Student tab > Student Health > Insurance Waiver Form) and pay through your student account. Student loans can also be applied to this expense. College of Adult & Professional Studies and Bethel Seminary students must contact SAS directly to enroll.
Student Assurance Services
Bethel partners with Student Assurance Services (SAS), a local plan administrator, to offer affordable accident and sickness plans to Bethel students who can enroll in the plan within 45 days of the first day of class or within 30 days from their loss or prior coverage.

Requirements for Student Athletes
The NCAA requires all student athletes to have coverage that meets the required minimum of $90,000 for each accident or injury and does not exclude intercollegiate sports accidents or injuries.
Student athletes who do not complete the online waiver will be automatically enrolled in the health plan Bethel offers as well as the appropriate sports plan, and will be billed through their Bethel student account for both plans. Rates for the plans are:
- Student Health Insurance Plan: $950
- Football, Hockey, and Soccer: $750 additionally ($1700 total)
- All Other Intercollegiate Sports: $400 additionally ($1350 total)
