Kara Wicklund

Instructional Designer

Before joining Bethel in 2011, Kara worked in education for ten years, beginning as an English teacher in the middle school grades. Kara taught in the traditional school setting for a few years and then transitioned into online teaching, where she taught at both the elementary and middle school levels for 5 years. She also spent 2 years working with school districts that were looking to implement online learning into their existing programs


  • Bachelor of Arts in Education and Biblical Studies from Northwestern College
  • Master of Arts (in-progress) in Education from Bethel University

What Kara Does at Bethel

As an instructional designer, Kara works with faculty members who need to build or modify current courses to make them suitable for distance (online) education. Her design projects include evaluation and revision of course outcomes as well as advice regarding effective pedagogy and appropriate assessment strategies for the online environment.

In Her Free Time

In her free time, Kara enjoys running, gardening, and cooking. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and children, spending long weekends at the cabin in the summer and visiting airplane and vintage car shows.
