A newsletter for parents of Bethel University students
Beyond the swinging doors, the accumulated knowledge, wisdom,
and wit of the ages beckon. The Bethel University Library is a
wonderful campus asset. Whether conducting research for papers,
checking out a digital camera, creating multimedia presentation,
or just taking a break in the day, the library can be a haven for
students. It’s a great place for Mom and Dad, too. “Whenever
parents are on campus, we welcome them,” says Carole Cragg,
associate director of Bethel’s library. “We have comfy
chairs and they can bring their coffee in while they browse our
newspapers, current journals, and magazines. Also, when they’re
on campus, all of our databases with nearly 30,000 journals full-text
online are available to them. Your students have access to these
anywhere, anytime!”
Cragg points out that the library has a large travel collection provided by the Friends of the Library, available because so many students and faculty travel and study abroad. To check out books, parents may register for a Bethel library card for $5 per year or become a Friend of the Library and receive a free card.
In addition, library staff has created a special web page just for parents and alumni with a list of various resources, including a short list of books of special interest to parents. A multitude of online resources creates a free “virtual library” comprising expansive databases, scientific, scholarly, and health journals, and informative publications.
By the way, when your students ask for help, the library’s Information Commons Reference and Technology staff are on hand to assist weekdays until midnight, and as well as on weekends. Students can contact them in person, or via email, chat, and phone.
