A newsletter for parents of Bethel University students
By Kay Wible
Thanks to the wonders of technology, you can take in a Bethel chapel message
or catch a football victory while sitting at your computer!
How? Welcome to iTunesU. Bethel’s interactive site was launched last spring and is updated periodically. “This is evolutionary, not revolutionary,” explains Mike Vedders, web applications specialist. “We’re easing into it a bit at a time.”
Though primarily a tool for Bethel employees and students, guests (such as parents) can access many “libraries” on the site to view streaming video or audio of an event, or download it free onto their home computer. Another option is to subscribe to automatically receive ongoing programs such as chapel.
What’s Available on iTunesU?
Chapel • Athletic Events • Music (concerts) • Conferences • Speakers
• Church Ministries Events • Student Life • Alumni and
Parent Services
(More selections will be added in the future.)
Royals fans can also view recent football games as a “movie,” although audio commentary is not yet available. The athletic department hopes to soon add sound and additional sporting events to the site. In addition, Bethel students and employees can access some course materials and lectures. The technology also facilitates distance learning for seminary course work.
Vedders says that iTunesU is user-friendly, but is more efficient with high-speed internet. He notes the search window on the site can be a help when looking for a specific event, as well. (Click on www.bethel.edu/its/itunes-u to learn more about iTunesU.)
