Bethel University

Publishing a Home Page

You will need to enter the URL (web address) at which to publish your web page. Suppose that your name is Olaf Olson. Your Bethel login will probably be olsola. The URL for viewing your pages will be:

http://www.bethel.edu/~olsola/

FTP Publishing

You should use an ftp client to publish your pages.

Notes:

  1. The URL is case sensitive!
  2. You publish to "ftp.bethel.edu", but view at "www.bethel.edu".
  3. You publish to your "public_html" directory, but leave that out of the URL when viewing. (The public_html directory is created for you when you sign up for a personal web site).
  4. You should change "index.html" to the name of the page you actually intend to publish - but the main page should be "index.html".

You may also use ftp to remove or rename your files.

Netscape Composer

The ftp address to publish will be:

ftp://ftp.bethel.edu/~/public_html/

Dreamweaver

Make the following "Site Settings"
Local Info:

  • HTTP Address - http://www.bethel.edu/~olsola/

Web Server Info:

  • ServerAccess - FTP
  • FTP Host - ftp.bethel.edu
  • Host Directory - public_html

FrontPage

Skip your login name

ftp://ftp.bethel.edu/~/public_html/

You may also use an ordinary FTP client
FTP to:

ftp.bethel.edu
You will already be in the ~olsola directory. Chage (cd) to the public_html directory. You may now transfer the web pages.
