Provost Search Update January 2009

Publication date: Jan 22, 2009 midnight

Members of the Provost Search Advisory Committee met Monday morning, January 12. Several committee members were unable to be present because of other commitments, including overseas teaching during interim. Two trustees, three faculty members, and three administrators discussed the committee’s anticipated process, timeline, and approaches to gaining input into the search process from constituency members. The committee spent more than two hours reviewing a draft of the position description and desirable qualities for the provost, and developed a list of key characteristics and abilities to be incorporated into the job description. When the revision is complete and acknowledged by committee members, they will bring it to faculty and staff members for comment. The meeting concluded with a range of assignments for participants. The committee recommended that President Barnes arrange with a search firm to begin the public phase of the process.
